Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), students and most especially the part 1 students of the department of microbiology are currently in shock after news broke that 16-year old 100-level student of Microbiology Mercy Afolaranmi, has committed suicide due to bad result.

According to our sources,
OAU's Chief Security Officer (C.S.O), Babatunde Oyatokun stated that  Miss Afolaranmi, who lived off-campus at Sabo area of Ile-Ife, poisoned herself and died on Thursday after she mixed "rat poison with battery extract.”

Colleagues close to her claimed she poisoned herself due to the fact that she couldn't handle the emotional pressure of getting an "E"  in CHM101 (Chemistry for first year students), a course which has become so dreaded that quite a high percentage of part 1 students in the science and technology related faculties fail year in year out.

According to PREMIUM TIMES, on Saturday, the school’s Dean of Students’ Affairs, Isiaka Aransi, also confirmed the death of Miss Afolaranmi during a telephone conversation with a representative.
She stated that;
“Although the reason and cause of her death is yet to be known, the division is aware of the death of Mercy,”

She is currently in the hospiral for autopsy as students are awaiting the actual cause of death.
Before her death, on October 10, she posted on Facebook that: “Above all other things, I just wanna see God, see what He looks like, speak with Him face to face. I don’t wanna miss heaven. LORD HELP ME.”
