Alaale

I saw her
The four breasted woman
She fed her quadruplets
The North and South
East and West
Unevenly...

It is her who sits
at the three crossroads
Junctions of Confusion
There she accepts silent sacrifices.

We want riches
We want long life
We want good health
And many wives...
Our wishes are forever.

Alaale
M'ama Aye
Gbebo wa o!

(A mimick of the duty of gods and the folly of man in offering
sacrifices to them)

*Alaale- Owners of the land
*Maama Aye- Mother of Earth

Inspiration: Incessant pots of sacrifice seen on streets.

Nelson Vincent Ayomitunde is a poet critic and essayist.
