As this year's Headies is around the corner, all my lovely readers reading this might be wondering how or why Reekado Banks and Lil Kesh are included in this headline, well we'll like to take you
back to all the drama from the 2015 Headies Award, where Reekado Banks won the ‘Next Rated’ category and many thought Lil Kesh was more deserving of the award – this however had many tongues wagging and fans choosing sides and you know the rest.

Aaradhna Jayantilal Patel a New Zealand singer was awarded the Best Album in the Urban and Hip Hop category yesterday at the NZ Music Awards (NZMAs), for her album Brown Girl. Problem is, she’s not a hip hop artiste; she’s a soul singer, so she gave out the award because she thinks she doesn’t deserve it.
While on the stage the artiste drew attention to the fact that she was being put in a box based on race — declining the award and giving it to her well deserving nominee, the rap group Swidt.

So this song is ‘Brown Girl’ and it speaks on many things. It speaks on racism and being placed in a box and for me, I feel like if I was to accept this, I would feel like I’m not being truthful in my song,’ Aaradhna told the crowd.
‘I feel like if you are putting a singer next to a hip hop artist, it’s not fair. I’m a singer, I’m not a rapper. I’m not a hip hop artiste,’ she said.
‘It feels like I’ve been placed in the category of brown people. That’s what it feels like. We need a soul R&B category.’

Later that evening she took to the stage to perform the title song from the album, and got a standing ovation.
