LAUTECH Students fight and destroy school properties over S.U Elections

The students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso had on Friday, 3 June, 2016, held a protest in reaction to the results of the just concluded students’ union election.

The election results which had all its ten winners as members of a team, the redemption team and none of the members of other teams  had a seat in the election was seen as unfair and impossible by the protesters.
The election, having been postponed three times before it held on Friday, had started late and the voting
platform used was the e-voting platform.
The electoral chairman, Musibau Lawal, was reported to have announced the results without given the detailed numbers of votes, accredited voters and number of void votes, if any.
Also, as at the time the electoral chairman, made the announcement, voting was still on-going at the Osogbo Campus polling centre.
Shortly after, A4 sheets with handwritten results were truncated on WhatsApp with no votes written for some aspirants.
The protesting students had blocked the school’s main gate (along Ogbomoso-Ilorin expressway) and burnt some tyres, vandalised school properties as well as union properties to showcase their grievances.IMG-20160603-WA0043
